Robotic Pancreas: Can millions of diabetics be put on autopilot ?

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Jeffrey Brewer was on top of the world. For years he had put in 100-hour workweeks as cofounder of two early Internet juggernauts: local guide Citysearch and the online advertising pioneer GoTo.com (later renamed Overture). But by 2001, with more than enough money to live on for the rest of his life, the 32-year-old handed off control of Overture and set out on a yearlong trip to Australia with his wife and two kids. Upon their return to the States, though, they noticed something odd. Seven-year-old Sean was unquenchably thirsty and urinating far more often than usual. On September 19, 2002, they took him to the pediatrician. The doctor gave him a urine test and announced without hesitation, “Your son has type 1 diabetes.”

james brown dead body missing from it's crypt grave

James Brown

The late James Brown — the Godfather of Soul who passed away in December of 2006 — is apparently missing! According to his daughter LaRhonda Pettit, Brown’s body has not been entombed in his crypt as he should because, she believes, there are people trying to keep his cause of death a secret. Now, I’m not sure how Pettit knows that her father’s body is missing from his crypt but she seems pretty sure that his body has been stolen away.

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

The dead body of a 75-year-old man was left on a Los Angeles balcony for several days because neighbours thought it was a Halloween display.

The body of Mostafa Mahmoud Zayed was found slumped over a chair on the balcony of his third-floor apartment with a single gunshot wound to the eye.

Neighbours had seen the body nearly a week before but hadn’t called police because they thought the corpse “looked like a Halloween dummy”.

Environmental awared brothel offers discount to cyclists

Monday, November 16th, 2009

A Berlin brothel is doing its bit for the environment – by offering discounts to customers who arrive on bicycles.

“The recession has hit our industry hard,” said Thomas Goetz, owner of the Maison d’envie brothel.

“Obviously we hope that the discount will attract more people. It’s good for business, it’s good for the environment – and it’s good for the girls.”

A photograph purporting to show a 55ft snake found in a forest in China has become an internet sensation.

It was originally posted in a thread on the website of the People’s Daily, the official Communist Party newspaper in China.

The thread claimed the snake was one of two enormous boas found by workers clearing forest for a new road outside Guping city, Jiangxi province.

They apparently woke up the sleeping snakes during attempts to bulldoze a huge mound of earth.

“On the third dig, the operator found there was blood amongst the soil, and with a further dig, a dying snake appeared,” said the post.

“At the same time, another gold coloured giant boa appeared with its mouth wide open. The driver was paralysed with fear, while the other workers ran for their lives.

“By the time the workers came back, the wounded boa had died, while the other snake had disappeared. The bulldozer operator was so sick that he couldn’t even stand up.”

The post claimed that the digger driver was so traumatised that he suffered a heart attack on his way to hospital and later died.

The dead snake was 55ft (16.7m) long, weighed 300kg and was estimated to be 140 years old, according to the post.
